Apple vs Facebook : Facebook runs full page newspaper ad against apple
Apple and Facebook are all over the internet as they are now in an open fight against each other. Recently Facebook did a full-page paid ad campaign against Apple on WSJ. This comes after apple restricts FB to track users without their consent on their latest 14 feature App Tracking Transparency.
- What's the story?
Apple and Facebook are now having a month-long standoff after apple decided to roll out the new ios 14.3 feature "App tracking transparency" which restricts apps to track a user across apps and websites without user consent. Amid this standoff, Apple CEO on Friday said that FB is welcome to keep tracking its users across apps and websites, but they should take the users' permission first.
Taking to Twitter, the Apple CEO wrote, "We believe users should have the choice over the data that is being collected about them and how it’s used. Facebook can continue to track users across apps and websites as before, App Tracking Transparency in iOS 14 will just require that they ask for your permission first."
This tweet came after Facebook ran full-page ads in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post, with the headline 'We're standing up to Apple for small businesses everywhere', for two days criticising Apple's privacy policy.
- What's Next?
With these two tech giants fighting against each other, it can go in anyone's favor. The fact which we should understand that these companies track our data regularly. The way Apple is highlighting the matter is misleading too as it is going to make people feel, their data is safe with apple devices where as in the long term apple might look for a paid website or internet model which will help them generate more revenue.
