3rd Phase of CM Mamata Banerjee - Good or Bad for Westbengal ?
On May 2nd Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool Congress has registered a landslide victory over their much stronger counterpart BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party). On May 5th Didi started her 3rd tenure at the office as CM of Westbengal. While if this is good for Bengal or not being a debatable topic all over the country, Bengalis have clearly given their mandate over the election and chosen didi for another 5years.
In this article, we will try to cover the positives and negatives we can expect for the next 5 years.
- Positives :
The local film industry (Tollywood) will be very happy overall as the local film stars have always managed to secure a close place at Didi's heart.
Jadavpur students and their unions will feel much safer under didi's leadership than any other fascist government.
Comedians, Columnist, and intellectuals will also feel safer under TMC where several MLAs like Madan Mitra considers the meme positively.
One 3rd of Bengal who feared CAA will make them leave this country will definitely feel safe for the next 5 years as Didi promised to oppose the implementation of CAA.
Successful schemes like Kanyashree are likely to stay for another 5 years.
- Negatives :
The biggest negative is possibly going to be the lack of industrialization. Bengal is deprived of new industries. Didi being the CM it is highly unlikely that the big business houses will come to Bengal as the business fraternity has not forgotten how didi threw TATA away from Singur.
Young Bengalis looking for job opportunities will again have to face scarcity of Jobs within the state and will have to migrate to other states. While a large chunk of engineers will fly to other states to work with the IT majors, Students looking for State govt. jobs or teaching jobs will again be stuck with their uncertain future.
Small, medium enterprises will also struggle to scale as the Tolabaji, cut money culture might remain as a roadblock for the next 5 years as well.
As didi is known for her criticisms of the central govt. schemes it is also highly unlikely that Bengalis will be able to take full benefit from those schemes.
- What's Next?
As the current situation of Covid in Bengal is really troublesome the 1st and foremost priority of Didi's cabinet should be to control the spread. By successfully managing the situation she might prove her worth to the nation which in terms result in new investment for the state. Although post-election violence is also a grey area where she needs to act commendably, it will be very interesting to see how she manages to come out of these challenges and build a roadmap for a better Bengal.
