Modi called the new Prime Minister of Britain, the two leaders talked about the free trade agreement!

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted congratulating Rishi Sunak as soon as his name was confirmed as the Prime Minister of Britain.  This time the two state leaders spoke on the telephone.  They are said to have talked about the free trade agreement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted about this meeting.  He wrote, 'Very happy to talk to Rishi Sunak today.  I congratulate him on becoming the Prime Minister of Britain.  We will work together to strengthen our strategic partnership.  We also agreed on the importance of equitable free trade agreements.

• What's next?

Later Sunak also tweeted thanking Modi.  He also informed me that the two great democracies are committed to working together in the coming days.

 Incidentally, Britain's free trade agreement with India was supposed to be completed before Diwali.  However, the agreement was not completed amid the unstable political situation and economic crisis in Britain.  But after today's conversation, it seems more likely that it will be done quickly.
